I was finally able to start letting her go, because I knew she was home, and safe!

I have a wonderful dog story; it’s about when my old dog Elton passed on. She was 14 and had been failing for some time. We think now she had cancer. She was my first dog I’d had as an adult, and she was my heart dog. When I knew she was getting ready to leave me, I was devastated. I tried everything to put off taking her to the vet for that last time.
One day I was passing by a doorway where Elton liked to lie. She raised her head and I swear – I know this sounds insane – I heard a voice inside my head say “You have to let me go.” The next week she was put to sleep by our vet. I was devastated.
I knew she was old and sick, and she wasn’t enjoying life anymore, but I missed her so much. Anyway, about a week after she passed I had a dream about her. She was standing in a beautiful meadow full of wildflowers, and she wasn’t old or sick anymore. I was finally able to start letting her go, because I knew she was home, and safe, and I would see her again.
And yes, her name is Elton, believe it or not. Like Elton John – when we first got her, we thought she was a boy.
